Cure Leukaemia is proud to announce that Tour de France legend Stephen Roche will join The Tour 21 in Partnership with Flutter team this July, taking on the four-stage package and riding alongside a team of amateur cyclists to raise vital funds for blood cancer patients across the globe.

Roche, the 1987 Tour de France winner, will ride Stages 16-19, including the iconic La Plagne—the very climb where he famously secured his victory nearly four decades ago. This year, he returns not to chase yellow, but to help change lives.

Stephen has his own personal connection to blood cancer, as his son Florian was diagnosed with the most severe form of leukaemia aged just seven and underwent a clinical trial as part of his treatment.  “It was a trial, they were not sure, but for us the normal treatment was not working — you would try anything at this stage.”

Speaking on his involvement, Stephen Roche said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Tour 21 team for this year’s ride. To return to La Plagne and the roads that hold such special memories for me, while supporting a cause as meaningful as the fight against blood cancer, is incredibly special. The work Cure Leukaemia does is making a real difference around the world, and I’m proud to play a part in that impact.”

Roche will bring his unparalleled experience of professional cycling to the peloton, offering guidance and inspiration to the amateur riders taking on one of the most challenging endurance events in the world—just one week ahead of the pros.

The news comes swiftly following the announcement that former England footballer and Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas announced he would be returning to the roads of France to tackle his seventh and final tour.

On Stephen’s announcement, Geoff Thomas, said:

“It’s absolutely fantastic to have a true Tour de France legend like Stephen join us this year. The Tour 21 just keeps growing, and to attract someone of his stature shows how far this event has come. I know his presence will be a huge boost to the team and to the cause.”

There is still an opportunity to ride alongside Stephen, Geoff and the Tour 21 team by signing up for the 4-stage package (Stages 16–19) this July.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of cycling history while supporting those affected by blood cancer across the globe.
